Cecchetti News: Haitian Dance, HIstory and Tradition Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 14, 2008 - 01:32 AM |
CCA Member, Eileen Herzog-Bazin, spent thirty one years living and teaching dance in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Appointed by Odette Weiner, CHAF’s founder and Artistic Director for Haiti’s famed Baccoulou Troupe. Acting as “seminar coordinator” for CHAF (the Comitée Haïtien Art & Folklore), a subsidiary of CIOFF (the International Council of Organizations for Folklore Festivals and Folk Art); Eileen helped to organize an unprecedented historical Haitian dance event entitled "Haitian Dance: History & Tradition".
Note: In 1997 Eileen was the recipient of a “certificate of appreciation” for her work. She was dubbed an “American-Haitian” by US Ambassador, William Lacy Swing, at the American Embassy, in Port-au-Prince, Haïti, along with several other prestigious Americans and Haitian personalities. She was recognized for her “Contributions in the Performing Arts & Intercultural Communication”; in short, for “valuable contributions in Promoting Mutual Understanding between Haiti and the United States”.
Note: Eileen is currently living in Florida and continues to support our member teachers in Haiti.
